Conformal coating minimizes the effect of a harsh environment and prolongs the life of the power supply.
Do customers ask for this (obvious) protection? Surprisingly, many customers do not.
Why?
They do not want to pay a small, additional cost and/or they feel that their entire system would have to be protected and that would not be realistic. It seems that they would much rather deal later on with a potential harsh environment failure.
What is that old adage?
Pay me now or pay me later? Out of sight out of mind?
